Somewhere along the way we picked up two horses.  Long story short, a very nice young lady stopped by the house one day and inquired as to what we were going to do with our property and if we were interested in leasing the land out to her so she could board her horses.  We said we would be interested in doing so if indeed we could agree on some basic but specific terms.  We did a few weeks later we had two very nice looking horses on the property.  I actually like having them here.  I don't ride and probably never will so we have the next best thing.

Although we are not responsible for the animals themselves we are responsible for the property and facilities.  One of the first things that we did was fix the "drainage" issues in the stalls.  The stalls were previously used for cows which I have since learned typically don't care what they lay or stand in.  Horses however are a bit more "high maintenance".  Before we could correct the water drainage problem we had to remove a lot of cow manure in order to get down to hard pack.

I hear people pay good money for this stuff . . .

After getting all the decade old manure old and taking the dirt down to hard pack we could start building the base back up.  We had 20 tons of gravel bought in and 40 tons of clay based fill dirt bought in as well.  This was to be used as base to help drainage and water run-off.  On top of the dirt rubber mats are laid down and then saw dust.
